Caution to Be Vigilant Upcoming Autumn Season

Caution to the Elderly to Be Extra Vigilant Around the Time Changes with the Upcoming Autumn Season

I never realized all the things that can happen as we age until it started to happen to a friend of mine and myself. Only in the end, when I lost my best friend and lover to his own confusion, in the administration of his own medication, did I feel the more urgency in writing this a year later almost to a month of his taken by ambulance from his home by my phone call to 911, his hospitalization, and by his subsequent death.

The story starts this way. We’re both bright, creative individuals and got along well and lived peacefully in separate units, in a duplex, in a small quiet rural community. We first found out amusingly enough that our eyeglasses were mysteriously disappearing daily, NOT...

For one thing, we chose black for the color of the frames.
Black framed eyewear blends into everything black...

Not realizing that almost everything that is black that they are set upon had made them blend in and hard to discover readily when needed.
Geek chic says, "Where are my spectacles?"

Whether it was the countertop in the kitchen, an end table or the desktop computer; it did not matter if it was upon rising from sleeping, overnight or a nap and needing them for reading anything.

When it came to waking from sleep, overnight and those luxurious, morning and afternoon naps, dispensing medicine became a challenge. First, on the hunt for the mysteriously, absent eyewear… Ughhh. Then, retrieving the bottles of medicine… Uhh, but one thing, the time of day… Once you realize it, you wonder if you took your pills from the last dose. You look at the time and a little panic sets in. Hmm, is it day or night?
Time Change in the USA Not all States use it.

The twilight of evening makes it now look as if it is at this same time of early dawning of morning. It’s a very easy thing to take the morning dose in the evening or mix up times and or even duplicate times of dispensing medication after a nap.

What might be best to do, is have a buddy system and also have a pill organizer. It’s not always easy to rely on a buddy when you live alone. Pill organizers can be bought and I would not use a single week but multiple 4 time a day type
A simple pill organizer can help reduce the amount of accidental overdoses.

and if you need several then maybe keep them together and bungie cord them together; since, big rubber bands never last.

Keep your empty bottles and keep in touch with your pharmacist often because they can be a great help. They can tell you of side effects and also any drug interactions with anything, even foods.

So, play it safe Be as sober minded as possible and know when you took your medicine to the best of your knowledge, around an event, something you had on tv, or a meal you had. At least this will cut down on the amount of accidental overdoses in the elderly whom we treasure so dear.

Oh, by the way confusion can happen at any age so don't think it only happens to the elderly...
